The term times will be unworkable for most families unless all the local schools go to the same amount of weeks per term if you had 1 child at the academy and 1 child at medmerry which one do you take out of school for the family holiday as terms and holidays wont match ? child care would also be an issue when both parents work.
I think you make a fair point. It would be very difficult on families with children at both primary and secondary schools if they had significantly different term dates. It would, in my opinion, benefit children’s learning if the Selsey schools could agree to four shorter terms of equal length.
This new proposal certainly would not work for our family as we have a child at Medmerry, a child at the Academy and another at a special needs school in Portsmouth, It needs to become a nationwide change to the school calendar for this to work for all.
I think that it is a great idea, and would certainly benefit the children. It also gives parents the opportunity to take cheaper holidays for their children. With regards to other schools, there are various holiday clubs available, also I personally find it much easier to arrange care for my eldest on her own as she is far more independent.
