Review
As an academy school we have been granted the freedom to organise our school to best suit the needs of children ,staff and the wider community. We will look closely at our policies and current practice to see what works well and where we can make improvements.

| Community cohesion | We will build on our excellent work of last year (International School Award) . We will further develop our links with schools in London and Spain. | HW CS |

| Admission procedures | BR HH | |
| Maths | Improve the maths curriculum- quality rather quantity | NF |
| Ethos | All staff and governors | GB |
| Special needs | Provision and assessment | CAB |
| KS1 progress | Ensure KS1 progress matches national average this year and is set to improve in subsequent years | ST EL KL SC |
| School terms | The school year is divided into 3 terms. These terms are often uneven (next year; autumn is 15 weeks , spring 11 ½ weeks and summer 13 ½ weeks. It would help children’s learning if terms were shorter and more evenly spread ( eg 4 terms of 10 weeks). I recognise there are major issues including accommodation of secondary school dates. | GB |
| Homework | At KS2 we concentrate homework on science and this has led to significant improvement in attainment in that subject. Should we continue to support science or change our focus? Is there too much homework or not enough? | |
| Pupil Reports | Reports require teachers to spend 4-5 days, outside of teaching, to complete. How useful are they? Could a more effective report take less time to write, yet be more informative to parents , staff and pupils? Is it possible to show at a glance a child’s progress and where they need to go next? | GB |
You can keep up to date with this review here on our website. We anticipate this process will take at least 2 terms. We are interested to hear parents’ views on these or other matters. You can add your comment to the website or send a note to school.

I have a number of friends around the country with children of the same age- year 4. All of them have weekly spellings, to learn with a little test the following week. I feel really strongly that this should be introduced at school.
Also languages- surely the children should be learning a little french or another to set them up for secondary school.?
Can we please have some maths and literacy homework instead of the science books which my son says is boring.
High School has been a shock to my Daughter due to the amount of homework she receives. I strongly agree that more homework should be given in all subjects.
I realise that as Parents/Carers, we are expected to help the children to learn at home. But where is the guidance from their Teachers? Why don’t they send children home with spelling lists and times tables to learn? Projects to complete in the holidays? Fun stuff to keep them interested? Children need to have the basic skills memorised by year 5!
I would ask you to look at ” VCOP “. This system of teaching “Big Writing” in the Midlands, made a big impact on the children at Primary school. The improvement in their standard of Literacy was quite astounding.
