As an academy, Medmerry Primary School sets its own curriculum within the framework provided by the national government.
The school broadly follows the National Curriculum, making local adaptations to suit both our locality and the needs of our pupils. You can download the curriculum overview for every year group of the school below:
Some subjects are taught through a cross-curricular approach, with topics selected for a number of weeks. Knowledge Organisers are provided to children and families at the beginning of each unit of work, showing the core knowledge that is to be covered in the unit.
There is more detailed information about each year group’s curriculum, including recent Knowledge Organisers, on the relevant year group pages under the ‘Children’ section of this website.
Pupils in the infant school are taught to decode through the Read, Write, Inc. phonics scheme. For children who are not yet secure in their use of decoding, this may be extended into the junior school as appropriate.
