Medmerry School Ofsted Report 2010

Medmerry School is a “good school” where all the staff “have created a caring environment where pupils feel extremely safe and enjoy learning”. This was the view taken by OFSTED when they Medmerry School in March 2010. The reception class was “outstanding” and the teaching and learning in the junior classes was consistently “good or better”. Pupils were very positive about the school and say they like their teachers because they are “helpful and kind”. The report explained “the school promotes an outstanding level of care, guidance and support for pupils….parents comment enthusiastically on the ‘excellent caring relationships’ the school provides for their children”. Medmerry Primary School ( Academy ) is in its first year of operation and has exceeded the forecast number of students. The total number of students in the period ended 31 August 2012 was 216. We are full in all year groups and have a waiting list in operation. Medmerry has achieved very high standards in children’s attainment over the past several years, often finishing in the top 10% in West Sussex for KS2 Standard Assessment Tasks (SATs) in English and maths. In 2012 we again excelled: attainment scores averaged more than 90% in the core subjects and children made exceptional progress from KS1 to KS2.

We also provide an excellent creative curriculum and this was recognized when the Arts Council of England , praised the school’s commitment to, and excellence in, arts education and awarded an Artsmark Gold to Medmerry Primary School. Fittingly, in the year of the Olympics, we received Gold Award by the South East in Bloom judges for work in the school garden. The Judges commented: “An exceptional school whose pupils are amazingly knowledgeable and who have achieved a well-deserved Gold Award.”. As the year draws to an end we have been awarded The Green Flag which is the top award for an eco school. An outstanding year for an outstanding school
