Year 1

In Year 1 we begin by building on the children’s knowledge through a balance of structured teaching and child initiated activities.

The teaching of phonics continues to be a key focus to support the development of the children’s reading and writing.

Their skills of decoding will be measured towards the end of the year in the phonics screening test.

As the year progresses we develop the children’s independence to aid a smooth transition into Year 2.
